Carbonated Electricity to the MAX!!

Materials:

Coca-cola
Sprite
Fanta
Pepsi
Seven Up
Syringe
Multimeter
Copper and aluminium strips
Alligator clips
Beaker

Hypothesis:

If the carbonated beverage has more sugar, then the electricity generated from it would have more voltage and less current. If the carbonated beverage has less sugar, then then the electricity given off from it would have less voltage and more current.

Procedure:

You will want to do this procedure fairly quickly so that the carbonated bevarage is as carbonated as possible.
Step 1: Fill the beaker with 300mL of the carbonated beverage. To get an accurate measurement use a syringe.
Step 2: Place one piece of copper and one piece of aluminium within the solution. Make sure that the metals are separated and do not come into contact.
Step 3: Connect the two pieces of metals to a multimeter using alligator clips.
Step 4: Test for current and voltage that is being produced within your circuit and write it down.
You will repeat this same exact procedure with four other carbonated beverages so you will have a total of five different experiments.

The picture to the left is the original voltaic battery constructed by Volta. We have taken his work to the next level by using soda ,instead of water and salt, to generate electricity.To the right is a carbon dioxide molecule and it is what makes soda and other beverages carbonated.

Conclusion:

From conducting our several different different experiments we ended with the conclusion that the lower the sugar level in a carbonated beverage the higher current and higher voltage is given off. The Sugar amount in a carbonated beverage could be one of the main factors that affects the current and voltage however, we don't think that the sugar amount in carbonated beverage could give such a drastic change in both current and voltage, so other factors, including temerapture, pH level, or energy within the drink may play a role in changing the current and voltage.

What we learned about science?


Alexi:




Kevin: I learned that with lower suger concentration in soda drink, the higher the voltage and current will be. I also learned that the current and voltge change all the time. This troubled us during the experiments, the voltage and current kept increasing all the time and we did not know when to record the numbers. Following are some questions that i do not understand about the experiment: Does resistance exsist in the voltage and current changes? Is pH value one of the factors that is responsible for the changes?
